The rumours and hopes for a new Grand Theft Auto continue. Because GTA V has been on the market since 2013, many players are getting impatient and want an even better game, with even better graphics and even more options. But how likely is it that a new GTA part will appear in the next two to three years?
I don’t want to go around the bush for long and say that the probability of playing a new GTA part in the next few years is almost zero. Whereby I am referring to the sequel, i.e. the long-awaited sixth part of the series. I think we’ll see a remaster of Vice City, San Andreas and or Liberty City.
Let’s put a few facts on the gaming table: GTA V is now the best-selling game with 140 million copies sold – after Minecraft with 200 million copies – worldwide. 2020 is the strongest year for Take-Two Interactive in terms of sales. These already terrific numbers are far from being the tip of the iceberg.
With the release of the next-gen consoles, there is a very high probability that sales will continue to rise. A few fine-tuning for the performance and the graphics ensure that the game also sells very well on the new consoles.
Not only the sales figures but also the in-game sales for GTA V are booming. Take-Two was able to increase its sales from GTA Online by 28 per cent. Only in December was there an expansion with the Cayo Perico Heist update, which in addition to new weapons also introduced new vehicles and a new nightclub.
The result of Rockstar’s strong brand management not only means that players are spending more money on microtransactions, but also attracting more and more players in front of the monitors. Take-Two confirms that in 2020 GTA’s online mode had more players each month than the game at launch.
Certainly, this is also a consequence of Covid-19, but you have to consider that every development studio benefits from this factor. GTA prevails against stiff competition and is popular on Twitch like never.
When is GTA 6 Coming Out | GTA 6 Leak?
In addition to Grand Theft Auto Cake, things are going brilliantly for taking Two’s second bestseller. Red Dead Redemption 2 can record the milestone of 36 million units sold and in December also has the highest number of new players since its release.
Red Dead Redemption 2 now also has its own online mode, which means that microtransactions and further sales can be expected from the new consoles.
For a short time, rumours about a GTA VI release were raised because Take-Two announced a large marketing budget for 2023 and 2024 in a financial report. Allegedly, GTA 6 should already be developed and the release would fit perfectly into such numerical dimensions. In my analysis of Take-Two,
I mentioned that while the company has many popular games, only two of them really work for the mass market. The Mafia series, Bioshock, Civilization and Borderlands are absolute gems that everyone knows but sell rather moderately compared to GTA or Red Dead.
Behind the big-budget is either a remaster version of Vice City, San Andreas or Liberty City or a new part of a brand mentioned above.
I hope that Rockstar will try to experiment. Slowly but surely, the typical storyline from petty criminal to top drug godfather has had its day. I would like GTA 6 to offer a Hollywood environment where you have to get the dark side of high society out of the way and always be in the spotlight.
In the midst of luxurious parties you have to put a stop to rich sacks – would have something, right?
